Learn
People consistently underestimate how willing others are to help. The most common reason a request goes unmade is an imagined refusal that almost never happens.
Specific asks are easier to say yes to than vague ones. 'Could you help me carry a table Saturday at 10, about twenty minutes?' beats 'let me know if you're ever free.'
Give an easy exit. A request with a graceful no attached is a request people can actually answer.
